Jura Crest Trail
Overview
Intro
Gently climbing through vineyards, the trail goes past the small town of Regensberg and up to Lägern, where magnificent views are on offer. After the descent to Baden, head onwards to the Gebenstorfer Horn with views of Switzerland’s moated region, to the town of Brugg on the River Aare and nearby Windisch.
Dielsdorf / Hinterdorfstrasse
The hiking trail is closed due to construction work. A diversion is signposted via Löwenweg, Wingertliweg and Kirchweg.
Description
The first signpost for the Jura Crest Trail can be found at the railway station in Dielsdorf, the number 5 on a green background. From there, the path leads decidedly uphill through beautiful vineyards to Regensberg and its historic castle. This is where the Jura Crest Trail truly begins, with the first hill of the Jura: the Lägern mountain. You then follow the path all the way to Baden.
The lively centre of Baden is a great place to relax awhile before tackling the next ascent. This goes past Restaurant Baldegg and onwards up the Gebenstorfer Horn. As is typical for the Jura Crest Trail, gloriously impressive views far into the distance await hikers here. Switzerland’s moated region lies directly below the Horn, where the Reuss, Limmat and Aare rivers come together. The Aare flows onwards to join the Rhine in Koblenz.
Passing through the various neighbourhoods of Gebenstorf, the path now leads directly to the Reuss – which you will only recently have seen from above – and then it is not far to the railway station in Brugg.
