Kreuzboden Bike
Overview
Intro
The circular tour leads past numerous alpine hamlets from Saas-Grund to Kreuzboden, where magnificent views over the four-thousand-metre peaks of the Saas Valley and the popular Bike Skills Park beckon. The spectacular flow- and singletrack descent is the loop's crowning finale.
Description
The route begins with a steady climb of about eleven kilometres through the "Löübinobodme" nature reserve, also known as the Saas valley's Yellowstone Park. Over 400-year-old mountain pines line the path that leads up to the whitewashed Josef Chapel. At the chapel, built in 1778, you can enjoy stunning views of the striking mountain backdrop.
Shortly afterwards, you reach the clearing at Alp Bodme. Passing old alpine hamlets, you climb up to the tree line. Kreuzboden, 2,400 metres above sea level, marks the end of the ascent, and you have reached the tour's highest point.
Deckchairs and hammocks invite you to relax on Kreuzbodensee. The panoramic views of the Saas mountains are breathtaking: the Mischabel chain with the Allalinhorn, the Alphubel and Täschhorn, the Dom, the Lenzspitze, and the Nadelhorn surround the idyllic mountain lake.
The Kreuzboden Bike Skills Park is located close to the mountain railway. You can hone your technical skills on the mountain bike on the short tracks with various degrees of difficulty before the spectacular downhill run to Saas-Grund calls.
The route continues downhill via the Trift Flowtrail until it enters the forest at Triftalp. The second part of the descent follows the Furwald singletrack with a medium degree of difficulty to Saas-Grund. The trail features numerous thrilling serpentines through pristine larch forest, jumps and some rocky sections.
