Schneeschuhtrail Badegg–Luthern Bad
Overview
Intro
This easy-going trail, relatively flat, leads from the Luthern Bad place of pilgrimage, past a yurt village and on through the delightful Napf hills. The return leg via Alp Badegg with its views over the Luther valley features the Badbrünnli 'place of power' with its mystical arm and foot baths.
Description
Located at the foot of the Napf, Luthern Bad is the most-visited place of pilgrimage in Canton Lucerne. The starting point of this particular outing is Dreilindenplatz, near the Restaurant Hirschen and church. Do pay the latter a visit: on entry, you are greeted by a Spanish Madonna from the 18th century surrounded by votive images. Stained glass depicts the history of this place of pilgrimage.
Once you've strapped on your snowshoes, you briefly enter the side valley heading towards Badbrünnli. After a few metres, the trail branches off and crosses a stream. Two bends and a rise later, a turn-off leads to a yurt village. This is open all year round and worth visiting – you can eat and sleep here. The trail continues straight on and follows the edge of the forest until you reach the highest point. At the crossroads, the trail dives into the forest and makes its way to the other side of the valley, where the forest clears. It descends past a farmhouse to the Alprestaurant Badegg, a good place for a hot drink and something fortifying to eat while enjoying the views across the Swiss Central Plateau.
The trail continues over fields downhill past a barn to the Fuhrweg path, which, before reaching Luthern Bad, takes you to a small hill surmounted by the Jakob Minder cross. Pause awhile on the bench by the sycamore tree and contemplate the tranquillity of this place and the view of Luthern Bad. The Jakob Minder path leads to Badbrünnli with its spring imbued with healing powers, chapel of pilgrimage, and arm and foot baths located underground. From there it's not far back to Dreilindenplatz in Luthern Bad.
