Hereafter, we present 10 suggestions for excursions along the tour.

Tipp 1: Sissacher Fluh

From the top of the Sissacherfluh, all you see is every possible shade of greenery and, way below, the little town of Sissach. The viewing platform is located at an altitude of 700 metres, in the heart of a popular hiking region laced with beautiful trails. Right behind the rocky outcrop, the Sissacherfluh restaurant serves food and drink to hungry hikers 365 days a year. What more could you ask for?

Tipp 2: Frescoes in Oltingen

Oltingen’s walled gothic church complex stands on a rise above the village. The interiors boast colourful frescoes that were only rediscovered in 1956. On the west wall of the nave, the large painting of the Last Judgment is especially impressive. The church lies on a route across the Jura that was already busy in Roman times, and later proved popular with pilgrims travelling to the monastery at Einsiedeln.

Tipp 3: Wisenberg lookout tower

The Wisenberg observation tower stands on a hilltop more than 1,000 metres above sea level; 24.5 metres tall, it forms a striking reference point in the landscape. It also offers an ideal opportunity to make a short break in your tour, stretch your legs and enjoy some fresh air along with glorious views of the Baselland region and over the Swiss Plateau – the best 360° panorama of the whole Jura chain.

Tipp 4: Belchenfluh panorama

Scenic paths lead along rocky ridges and up to the exposed crag of the Belchenfluh. The region between Eptingen, Waldenburg and Langenbruck, on the border with canton Solothurn, is superb for hiking, and the Belchenfluh is its highlight and finest viewpoint. Here, at an altitude of 1098.8 metres, hikers enjoy a superb vista extending to the Alps and north across the Baselland region to the Black Forest.

Tipp 5: Solar bob and rope park Langenbruck

Fast, fun and full of firsts: Langenbruck is home to the world’s only toboggan run that features a solar-powered lift. As you hurtle down at speeds of up to 50 km/h, you’ll whizz around Europe’s only 540-degree loop. You’ll also find Switzerland’s first adventure rope park equipped with a continuous safety system that cleverly eliminates the need to clip and unclip karabiners. High thrills are guaranteed!

Tipp 6: Wasserfallen region

Outdoor fun for all the family! First you glide in gondolas up to Wasserfallen, where the ridge-top walks reveal glorious views extending as far as the Alps, the Black Forest and the Vosges hills. After a bite at one of the many mountain restaurants, enjoy a thrilling ride back down to the valley on freewheel scooter-bikes. If you’ve still got energy, climb among the treetops at the adventure rope park.

Tipp 7: Mechanical music museum, Seewen

A delightful museum in Seewen celebrates the ingenious world of music machines, from music boxes and jukeboxes to barrel organs and orchestrions – essentially miniature orchestras in a cabinet. The Museum of Music Automatons features one of the world’s largest and best-known collections from the 18th century to the present day; highlights include the organ of the Britannic, sister ship of the Titanic.

Tipp 8: Arlesheim cathedral

Arlesheim boasts the only cathedral of the Baselland region, constructed in 1680 in exuberant baroque style. The stately neighbouring buildings once housed the cathedral canons; together, the structures form a magnificent architectural ensemble. Highlights of the cathedral’s ornate interior include Switzerland’s only surviving organ by the master builder Johann Andreas Silbermann, dating from 1759.

Tipp 9: The Ermitage, Arlesheim

The Ermitage is the largest English-style landscape garden in Switzerland. Idyllic ponds, winding paths, romantic bowers, artificial grottoes and fairy-tale fountains are all typical features of this style of landscaping, which became fashionable in the 18th century. The park in Arlesheim was established in 1785 and today enchants visitors from all over the world with its artful celebration of nature.

Tipp 10: Merian Gardens Münchenstein

The beautiful Merian Gardens south of Basel have many faces: kitchen garden, agricultural centre, English-style gardens, lush lawns, botanical collections ... You could happily linger for hours among the sea of flowers. Other highlights include the stylish Café Merian, a working watermill, a collection of carriages and sledges, various sculptures throughout the park and an attractive children’s playground.
