A storybook paradise for winter sports – in Uri Canton, centrally located in Switzerland. Andermatt in the Urserntal, a valley so loved and praised by Goethe, is captivating with 125 km (nearly 80 miles) of cross-country trails and ski slopes. The Bernhard Russi Slope, named after the gold medalist in the Winter Olympics in Sapporo, is a popular ski slope on the glacier. Whether beginner or a seasoned veteran, in Andermatt there's a slope that's right for every degree of difficulty. Gemsstock itself offers 26.5 km (around 16.5 miles) of black, 23.5 km (around 15 miles) of red and 6.3 km (nearly 4 miles) of blue slopes. In the summertime, visitors are drawn by green meadows and hiking trails, clear lakes and steep rock walls. Mountain hiking and mountain biking, climbing, golf and fishing are popular attractions.
