This is Yverdon-les-Bains
In Yverdon-les-Bains, you can bathe in warm thermal water and, just a few minutes later, stand in front of a medieval castle. The town lies in western Switzerland at the southern end of Lake Neuchâtel, in the canton of Vaud.
Discover Yverdon-les-Bains
The town hall is a landmark of Place Pestalozzi in the old town. Right next to it stands the castle with its round corner towers, built in the 13th century on the orders of Peter II of Savoy. The pioneering educator Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi taught children here for 20 years. Today, the Musée d’Yverdon et région in the castle displays fascinating finds from the region, including 2 boats from Roman times. Even older are the 45 worked stone blocks in the Clendy district, dating back to the Neolithic period.
Bathing in sulphurous thermal water
The Romans already channelled spring water into the baths of their settlement. The sulphurous water is considered beneficial for joints and airways. Follow their example and bathe at the Centre thermal: the outdoor pools reach temperatures of up to 35°C and feature massage jets.
Science fiction at the Maison d'Ailleurs
The Maison d'Ailleurs is a museum dedicated to science fiction and utopias. Its collection was founded by the French author Pierre Versins. Collector Jean-Michel Margot added around 20,000 objects relating to Jules Verne. At the Espace Jules Verne, discover rare editions of his novels and models of vehicles from the books. Put your skills to the test in an escape game based on Captain Nemo's Nautilus.
Around Yverdon-les-Bains
At the Pro Natura Centre Champ-Pittet, discover the Grande Cariçaie, Switzerland's largest lakeshore wetland. A 2-kilometre trail leads along wooden boardwalks through the reeds to a birdwatching hide. Grandson is just 5 minutes away by train, with a castle featuring 4 round towers overlooking the lake. A train takes you to Sainte-Croix, at 1,066 metres, in 33 minutes. There, the MuMAPS museum displays music boxes and automata.
