Arosa Line
Overview
Intro
The journey through Chur starts at a leisurely pace. However, shortly after the city borders, the red train turns into a mountain railway steeply ascending to Arosa (1775 metres a.s.l.).
On just 26 kilometres, the Arosa Line negotiates 1000 metres in altitude. As a tram, the Rhaetian Railway train first meanders through Chur – passing by the city walls, the Maltese Tower and the Upper Gate (Obertor). Minutes later, it winds its way through the pristine nature of the Schanfigg mountain landscape. Shortly before arriving at Arosa, the train crosses the Langwieser viaduct high above the river Plessur – it feels almost like flying.
