Intro

The Cathedral of St. Ursus - a significant, early classical baroque church with breathtaking views.

The Cathedral of St. Ursus, designed by architects Gaetano Matteo Pisoni and Paolo Antonio Pisoni, was built between 1762 and 1773. It is the landmark of the town of Solothurn.
The tower and the church have an affinity with Solothurn’s holy number of 11: the imposing tower stands 11 metres high and 6 metres wide, and there are 11 bells hanging in its belfry. It is worthwhile walking up the 249 steps, as you are rewarded with unique views of the city and far across the countryside. You’ll see some of the town’s hidden elements revealed.
