Clemgia Gorge
Overview
Intro
The geological formation in the Clemgia Gorge with its green serpentine interspersions is particularly fascinating. The narrow trail wends its way above the Clemgia up to the end of the gorge, leading alternately through mixed forests and across craggy Bündnerschiefer (slate formations typical of Graubünden).
From Scuol (Gurlaina) the trail leads behind the high Inn bridge to the Scuol power plant (Clüsa) and then in a pleasant ascent through the cool gorge up to the “Achter Steg” (Eighth Bridge) at 1,376 meters above sea level, where the path on the right climbs over the Steg (Bridge) to Avrona. Here the gorge suddenly opens up and affords the hiker a view of the wild scree area of the Val Lavetscha, which is at this point already part of the National Park.
You now have to decide if you want to follow the trail along the Clemgia to S-charl or if you should take a right turn to get into the shady forest leading to Avrona. From Avrona you will soon reach the Lai Nair, a lake in a pine-covered forest nestled in a moor landscape. From here the route leads on the other side down to Tarasp.
Immediately after rainy weather hiking should be avoided because of rockslides.
Clemgia Gorge will be closed this summer.
