Experiences in Kandertal / Kiental

Today, the castle reflects the change from a medieval castle to a patrician residence.

In times past, horrible things must have happened in the Kiental Valley! At least the old legends are telling so.

The entrance to the Gasterntal Valley leads through the narrow Chluse Gorge. This passageway was used from earliest times. Mules were used on this narrow pass, which is the first steep ascent on the way to Lötschen Pass.

The Kandertal valley is set in the unique mountain scenery of the Bernese Oberland. You will find some of Switzerland’s most impressive hiking routes here, around the Oeschinen and Blausee lakes, the Gemmi and the Blüemlisalp.

The whole family can go on a treasure hunt in Aeschi bei Spiez. Various questions are hidden on the treasure-hunt trail that the family can find and answer together. Once the treasure hunters have answered all the questions correctly, they can pick up a reward at the tourist office.

Nestled between hills, vineyards and Lake Thun, Spiez opens up a door to another world. In the lovingly designed toy museum, visitors can embark on a journey into the world of childhood from times gone by.

Twenty markers (made of larch tree wood), small slate roofs and stations with sensory equipment have been installed on existing hiking trails.

The wild and romantic landscape between Frutigen and Kandersteg is best discovered on foot, following the tracks of the Lötschberg railway.

The Kandersteg – Oeschinensee gondola lift takes you up to the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site. Up here at 1578 meters, the turquoise Oeschinensee is waiting for you. It is surrounded by steeply rising rock faces.
