Experiences in Schaffhausen

This landscape park, designed along Romantic lines, consists of a combination of strictly laid-out avenues and Mediterranean flair. The park is picturesquely situated above the old town and is dominated by an avenue of lime trees that leads to a pulpit with beautiful views over the pristine landscape of the Rhine.

It’s a fairy tale land of dolls. Antique and new dolls, teddy bears, toys, plush toys and lots of other items can be admired in this museum.

Take the scheduled boat through eastern Switzerland and cross the border between Switzerland and Germany along the way. On 50 kilometres you glide from the Rhine over the Untersee to Kreuzlingen on Lake Constance.

Rosengarten, the rose garden, is situated next to the entrance of the Munot Fortress and covers an area of about 2,000 sq.m. In 1981 the town nursery together with the Swiss association of rose lovers designed it in the French Renaissance garden-style.

The headquarters of the famous watchmaker IWC lies on the outskirts of the Old Town of Schaffhausen, directly on the Rhine River. A stylish museum in the elegant historic building takes visitors on a trip through time and the world of legendary watch models.

The Rhine River Bath: cooling off with a view of the fort Munot. This beautiful wooden structure has been the favourite swimming spot in Schaffhausen for more than 140 years.

The Museum zu Allerheiligen is one of Schaffhausen’s most significant places of interest. Here, archaeology, history and art as well as natural history converge under one roof. In addition to its extensive permanent exhibitions, the museum hosts between six and eight special exhibitions each year.

The Kesslerloch cave is one of the most important sites of the late Ice Age in Europe and provides traces of settlements from the Upper Palaeolithic Age (Magdalenian civilisation, 14 000 – 12 000 B.C.).

The Hagen viewing platform by Merishausen in canton Schaffhausen offers sweeping from the Black Forest as far as the Alps.

Munot has been proudly overlooking the town of Schaffhausen for well over 400 years. The tower contains the quarters of the Munot watchman, who rings the famous Munot bell for five minutes every evening at 9 p.m. – by hand, of course, just like in 1589.
