The Oskar Reinhart Collection at a glance
The villa "Am Römerholz" is located on the edge of the forest above Winterthur in the canton of Zurich. The Geneva architect Maurice Turrettini built it around 1915 for an industrialist from Winterthur. Oskar Reinhart bought the house in 1924 and had a gallery wing added in 1925. After his death, the house and collection went to the Swiss Confederation.
What to experience
Explore the collection (1.5-2 hours)
The collection spans from Bruegel and Cranach to Goya, Renoir, Cézanne, Manet, van Gogh and Picasso. Reinhart always acquired only the best masterpieces that could be purchased at the time. What is particularly appealing is that you can experience the paintings as close as in a private residence.
- Good to know: Lightweight folding stools are available free of charge for the tour.
- Tip: In the museum café you can enjoy the view over the historic park to the foothills of the Alps.
Explore the park and terrace
Below the café terrace, the spacious park around the villa invites you to take a walk. Discover sculptures that stand between mighty old trees and look out over Winterthur to the foothills of the Alps from the viewing terrace. The visit can be easily combined with a city walk through Winterthur.
- Good to know: The café terrace is not wheelchair accessible.
