Bussalp Bike
Overview
Intro
Everyone who loves sledging has heard of the Bussalp. But discovering this high rugged mountain is just as exciting in summer on a mountain bike. This tour is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience, combining a scenic landscape with a splendid view of the mountains of the Bernese Oberland.
Description
Grindelwald, the starting point of the tour, is nestled in a lush green valley against the imposing backdrop of the magnificent Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks. Along the paved road to the Bussalp from the village of Eiger, the mountainside is dotted with homes, holiday houses and small alpine farmsteads as far up as the eye can see. The serenity of the scenery guarantees pure relaxation.
But the tranquillity of the alpine meadows and forests can be deceptive: to reach the Bussalp, cyclists will have to pedal hard to climb the 800 metres to the destination. But it’s well worth it at the top. The view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks is second to none.
The way down initially retraces the same route, branching off at Holzmattenläger in the direction of Holewang. The «Rasthysi», a cosy little inn along the trail, is the perfect place to stop for a bite to eat. After a stop to admire the idyllic forest clearing, the route briefly climbs up again. Finally, an attractive single track winds through the forest back down to Grindelwald.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
