Description
The skating adventure starts in the middle of the fields of Seeland, the vegetable garden of Switzerland. Kerzers train station is a perfect starting point for exploring this. At the start or at the end, it is worth stopping at Papiliorama: in the 1,200 m2 tropical garden, there are wild plants and more than 1,000 butterflies to marvel at. However, it also has various animal species from the South and Central American tropical forests.
After the exotic, it is all about local vegetables: the next few kilometres of skating run through fields where a variety of vegetables grow all year round. Cauliflower, broccoli, rows of lettuces, shiny aubergines, carrots and asparagus - around a quarter of the Swiss vegetable harvest comes from this area, which is why it is also known as Switzerland’s vegetable growing area. Grain, sugar beets and vines also grow here.
The journey continues along the sparkling Broye Canal, which connects Lake Murten and Lake Neuchâtel. It is essential for anyone who wants to explore the Three Lakes Region on foot, by bike, on skates or by boat. The regularly flowing canal as well as the roads ensure a smooth and pleasant journey. There are plenty of farm shops along the route where you can try local specialities. Whether you are a professional or a beginner, the route is suitable for every level. The rhythm of the skates means that Seeland, with its rich history and natural charm, can be discovered in a different way.
