Description

After a short ascent, you bike along the Gotthard mule track, past avalanche protection shelters of «Brisch Laui» to Meitschligen. From the eastern valley side between Gurtnellen and Wassen you can well observe the moving trains, which wind themselves across bridges, viaducts and turning tunnels through the higher Reuss valley.

Behind Wattingen you pass under the eves of the St. Josef chapel, which was built in the last quarter of the 18th century. Next you bike along a wonderful forest track via Neiselental all the way to Göschenen. Biking on the historical Gotthard mule track, along the steep rock walls of the Schöllenen gorge you reach the Devil's bridge and the Suworow memorial monument. If not before, here at the latest you have to stop to watch the wild river Gotthardreuss, which has cut itself into the tough Gotthard granite over centuries.

After the tunnel Urnerloch, which was the first tunnel in the Alps, you reach the valley of Ursern and the turning point of Andermatt. The return route leads along the Bergstrasse to the town of Gurtnellen-Dorf. Now you can enjoy an attractive descent on meadow trails to Meitschligen and subsequently you bike on the same route as before back to Amsteg.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
