Schwyberg Trail
Overview
Intro
The Schwyberg trail makes for a wonderfully decelerating experience. Peace and nature have returned to what was once a bustling ski resort. Once you have climbed the Schwyberg, a breathtaking view from the alps to the Jura rewards the hikers.
Description
The snowshoe route starts at the Schwarzsee, Gypsera stop. From there, it continues across gentle slopes up to Chesslers Schwand and on to the ridge of the Schwyberg. The effort of the ascent of around 600 metres in altitude is rewarded with a 360-degree panorama. The view sweeps from the Bernese, Vaud and Fribourg alps across the Mittelland to the distant Jura massif.
In 2002, a return to tranquillity occurred in the Schwyberg region. Storm Lothar destroyed the mountain restaurant in 1999, and three years later, the buzzing of the ski lifts fell silent as well. Since then, the hilly landscape in the foothills of the Fribourg alps has once again been turned over to nature.
The solitude on this round trip also has its disadvantages since there’s no restaurant along the way. But you can stock up on provisions from the village shop at the start.
While descending, the view of the lovely Schwarzsee lake opens up again. In cold winters it is often frozen over. As soon as the ice cover is stable enough, it is open for walking, cross-country skiing or skating.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
