Intro
Alpine winter hike at over 2,000 m a.s.l.: in open countryside, alongside the «Traumpiste» and accompanied by a panoramic view of the Lower Engadine, this route links the Motta Naluns ski area to the Engadine village of Sent.
Description
This Alpine winter hike sets off from the top station of the Scuol cable car, Motta Naluns, at an altitude of around 2,150 m. From here there is a gentle descent past the bottom of the Naluns chair lift and the children’s lifts towards Jonvrai.
From the start hikers can enjoy the wonderful panoramic view of the Lower Engadine peaks. Gradually the trail leads along the mountainside, through open country, before it begins to descend again towards the ski area. At Jonvrai for a short stretch the route runs alongside the piste before once again continuing through open terrain. After gaining altitude, hikers will have to tackle several steep descents.
On the way down to the typical Engadine village of Sent, there is another short stretch alongside the «Traumpiste», the downhill ski run from Motta Naluns. Whilst enjoying the fantastic view of the Engadine Dolomites, take the time to have a rest. The last part of the trail towards Sent finally turns away from the ski piste. Sent is renowned as a picture-postcard village: its prominent church tower, several village fountains, typical Engadine houses – their facades beautifully decorated with sgraffito – a tour of this village is a must at the end of this hike.
