Thur-Uferweg
Overview
Intro
This part of the Thurweg, which starts at Weinfelden, leads you through emerald-green forests alongside the River Thur. Finally you reach Kradolf, a sleepy little village with vibrant nature.
Description
This section of the Thur-Uferweg leads from Weinfelden over field and forest paths in the opposite direction to the flow of the river, repeatedly through forested areas. Between the lush-green trees you catch glimpses of the river, which gave the Canton Thurgau it's name.
In spring, the edge of the forest lining the path is seems to be covered in wild garlic. A little further on, the path leads right alongside the river, where it's sometimes wild course can be seen in places. Back in the forest again, you pass a tributary of the Thur with a wide river bank. The ideal place for a rest stop.
You're hardly out of the forest before the scenery changes and suprises you with beautiful open landscape. Lush meadows, widely-scattered fruit trees and isolated farmsteads in the distance are reminiscent of a typical idyllic Swiss picture postcard. You complete the tour with views from the Thur bridge in Schönenberg as you take your leave of this impressive river.
