Trail Run Sils
Overview
Intro
While beautiful all year round, the Engadin is especially magical during the autumn, when the larch trees turn gold and the tall grasses fade to yellow. This easy run begins beside Lake Sils, the largest lake in Graubünden.
Description
Not far from the resort of St. Moritz, you begin the circuit by running beside the calm, turquoise water of Lake Sils. After coasting around the beautiful lake, leave the shore and cross the road at the Maloja end, where the rockier trail climbs to Lägh dal Lunghin (2,484 metres). This Alpine lake is surrounded by views of Piz Lunghin, Piz Grevasalvas and higher snowy peaks in the distance that mark the border with Italy: Piz Roseg, Piz Fedoz, Cima di Rosso and Cima di Castello.
The return route is more rugged until it passes above the tiny village of Grevasalvas, where the charming stone and wooden houses invite you to slow down and lose track of time. The village is a short detour, but the extra metres it takes to climb back up to the trail are well worth it. The remainder of the descent follows the Via Engiadina, a smooth dirt single trail down to the glistening water of the lake.
Tip from ALPSinsight: Visit the Engadin trails in autumn to admire the spectacular seasonal colours.
