Experience the spectacular Mürrenbach Falls up close. Take the cable car from Stechelberg to Mürren. From the air you can marvel at the water that plunges over the Mürrenfluh 417 meters down into the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
The Mürrenbach Falls at a glance
The Mürrenbach Falls in the Bernese Oberland are considered the highest waterfall in Switzerland at 417 metres. It rises above Mürren and plunges along the steep Mürrenfluh almost to the valley floor near Stechelberg. The natural spectacle can be admired from the cable car to Mürren or on a hiking trail in the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
What to experience
Take the gondola lift past the waterfall (15 minutes)
The cable car from the Stechelberg valley station to Mürren leads almost within reach of the Mürrenbach Falls. You float along the massive rock walls and can watch the falling water up close. The ride offers a top view of the entire Lauterbrunnen Valley and the surrounding peaks.
- Good to know: The gondola lift is in operation all year round.
- Tip: From Mürren you can easily reach the Schilthorn to the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant.
Hike through the Lauterbrunnen Valley (2–3 hours)
From Lauterbrunnen, a hiking trail leads through the valley to Stechelberg. On the way you will pass the Staubbach Falls and finally reach the Mürrenbach Falls. The route is flat and leads through meadows and past farms. Information boards provide information about the 72 waterfalls in the valley.
- Good to know: The hiking trail is mostly flat and suitable for prams.
- Tip: Visit the waterfall after heavy rains or during the melting of the snow.
