Tour d'Aï: Summit above Lake Geneva

From Leysin, the Tour d'Aï looks as if it has no desire to welcome visitors. Steep limestone walls rise to a narrow ridge. Yet a well-secured mountain path leads up, offering just the right amount of adventure. **The Ascent** We start in Leysin at around 1,260 meters. The route to Alp Temeley is gentle along an alpine road, then the terrain becomes more rugged. At the Buvette d'Aï at 1,892 meters, a handful of rustic old mountain huts, the exciting part begins: we climb over a rocky ridge onto the long ridge of the Tour d'Aï. Depending on the season, alpine flowers glow to the left and right of the path, and the views become more impressive with every step. **The Final 200 Meters** The best is saved for last. The path leads along the east side of the Tour d'Aï, with a new view waiting around every corner. After about three hours, we reach the summit and take a long break to enjoy the view. We’ve earned it, and the scenery deserves to be savored. **The Descent** We return down the same path, carefully. At the Buvette d'Aï, there’s refreshment, and then the circle is complete back in Leysin. **Key Facts** Around 13 km, with 1,100 meters of ascent and descent, 5 to 6 hours of hiking time. If you prefer a shorter route, take the cable car to Berneuse. **Requirements** Challenging mountain hike (T3+). Some sections are exposed and secured with chains—here, you’ll need to use your hands. Sure-footedness and a head for heights are essential; no climbing experience is required. **Tip: For Sunset** If you’d like, we can set off in the evening and watch the sun dip behind Lake Geneva from the summit.
