This is Beckenried
Beckenried is a lakeside holiday resort with a bathing beach and direct access to the Klewenalp hiking and skiing area. The village lies in the canton of Nidwalden on the southern shore of Lake Lucerne, around 20 minutes by car from Lucerne.
Discover Beckenried
Stroll along Seestrasse to the boat landing and bathing beach. At the See-Distillerie Beckenried, you can book a guided tour with a tasting. Visit the neoclassical parish church of St. Heinrich. Its original Romantic organ from 1913 has been preserved and is regularly played at concerts. On the road to Buochs stands the Baroque Maria im Ridli Chapel, a pilgrimage chapel for boatmen.
Hiking and skiing on Klewenalp
The cable car takes you up to Klewenalp at around 1,600 metres in 10 minutes. From the top, you can look across the lake towards Mount Rigi and the two Mythen peaks. In summer, follow a pushchair-friendly trail to Stockhütte or cycle down into the valley. In winter, 40 kilometres of pistes await in Nidwalden's largest ski area. There are also snowshoe trails, winter hiking paths and toboggan runs.
Across the lake by boat and car ferry
Scheduled passenger boats travelling between Lucerne and Flüelen stop in Beckenried. You can reach Lucerne or Rütli directly by boat. From March to October, the car ferry crosses to Gersau in around 20 minutes. It is the only section of the Grand Tour of Switzerland that travels across water.
Around Beckenried
Travel via Emmetten to reach Seelisberg, high above Lake Uri. From there, hike down to Rütli along the Swiss Path. Take a scheduled boat to Vitznau and change to the cogwheel railway up Mount Rigi. In Stans, ride the Cabrio cable car to Stanserhorn and stand on its open upper deck during the journey.
