This is Kandersteg
Kandersteg can be found in the southwest of Switzerland in the
Bernese Oberland.
Lake Oeschinen and
Lake Blausee, many cross-country ski trails and the connection through the Lötschberg Tunnel to
Valais make the high alpine village a popular travel destination.
Discover Kandersteg
Take a stroll through the village before setting off on your excursions. In addition to its centuries-old wooden chalets, Kandersteg offers many shops, restaurants and accommodation options. Its location, 1,100 metres up, and its three cable cars make it an ideal starting point for experiences in the high alpine mountains.
Kandersteg and its lakes
Blue and indescribably beautiful – this is how you could describe all of the lakes around Kandersteg. A cable car and a panorama trail lead to Lake Oeschinen. You can reach the Blausee in the Kandertal Valley on foot or in just a few minutes by bus. And the Sunnbüel cable car will take almost all of the way to the three Arven Lakes. From spring to autumn, these mountain jewels invite you to come and enjoy a picnic here or take a dip. In winter, an
ice walk leads across the frozen Lake Oeschinen.
Kandersteg: a cross-country skiing paradise
Cross-country skiing fans are drawn to the Kandersteg region in winter: with around 60 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails – in classic and skating versions – this is one of the largest cross-country skiing areas in Switzerland. From high-altitude trails above the tree line to
leisure trails near the village and
illuminated night-time trails, you’ll find everything you could want right here. The cross-country skiing season in the Kandertal Valley takes place from late autumn until spring.
Around Kandersteg
Excursion destinations around Kandersteg include the natural Gasterntal Valley, the winter sports areas of
Adelboden and

Niesen and the wildly romantic
Kien Valley. A popular destination for mountain tours are the numerous
huts belonging to the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC). Routes lead to Valais over the
Gemmi Pass and the Lötschen Pass – and by train through the Lötschberg Tunnel with car transport.
