Alexandre de Broca
Overview
Intro
Exhibition | Contemporary painting in a changing world
With his boundless admiration for set designer Alexandre Trauner - famous for his work with Orson Welles, Billy Wilder and René Clair - he decided to train in graphic arts at the Académie Julian in Paris. In 1993, he took part in a group exhibition of paintings at the Carrousel du Louvre, selected by the painter Balthus. After drawing the storyboard for the feature film Le Bossu (1997), directed by his father, Alexandre de Broca moved to the United States, where he was hired by the Ubisoft studio. 1999 marked the date of his first solo exhibition of paintings in New York.
Back in Paris, he devoted himself to designing sets for animated films, notably Le Petit prince, Sahara, Astérix, le secret de la potion magique, and was artistic director for a number of animated films and series.
Alexandre de Broca loves nothing more than going off on a tangent between two films, easel slung over his shoulder to sketch new landscapes and live in the great outdoors.
His paintings are the subject of numerous exhibitions, most recently in the staircase of honor at the Comédie Française, a pictorial adventure painting the backstage areas of the famous Parisian theater.
