Forever Young – The most significant pictures of the Langmatt
Overview
Intro
Before the museum closes for renovation from 2024 to 2025, the exhibition will show all the paintings of French Impressionism.
The Berlin band «Alphaville» stormed the international charts with the catchy tune «Forever Young», in 1984. The lyrics evoke the romantic longing for eternal life. What there is for no one deserves the Langmatt's outstanding Impressionist collection, as does the entire historical ensemble.
Before the museum closes for renovation from 2024 to 2025, «Forever Young» will show all the paintings of French Impressionism, other important groups of works by Corot and Boudin, and the Venetian vedute, one more time. Sidney and Jenny Brown started their collection of around 50 Impressionist paintings remarkably early. They acquired the majority of these works between 1908 and 1919, when French Impressionism was still considered contemporary art. Profit considerations or social prestige could therefore not have been a motivation for collecting. Almost all the well-known names are represented: Cassatt, Cézanne, Degas, Gauguin, Monet, Pissarro, Renoir and Sisley. Today, the Langmatt is one of the most important private collections of Impressionism in Europe.
During the museum's closure period, the collection goes on exhibition tour and is shown by major museums in French-speaking Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
