Lausanne is known for its distinctive festivals all year round.
Things really begin to heat up in summer from mid-July, when the whole city celebrates the Festival de la Cité Lausanne, at which all are invited to party, dance and cheer. For six days, artists from all over the world perform a vast array of concerts, dance performances and theatre in the open air to the delight of all who attend. In winter, the Lausanne Lumières Festival casts a glorious festive glow over the city for a whole month in the run-up to Christmas. The old town is alight with shimmering works of art created by national and international artists. Together with the Bô Lausanne Christmas market, they create a unique and romantic atmosphere.
