Old Town Chur
Overview
Intro
The old town of Chur, the oldest city in Switzerland, combines history with modern flair. Between small alleyways, the castle, the cathedral and lively markets, it offers cozy cafés and numerous boutiques.
The old town of Chur has been extensively restored in recent decades and is now one of the most intact old towns in Switzerland. Red signs guide visitors to the most beautiful sights, such as the episcopal locksmith's castle, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and numerous historic buildings.
The old town serves as a meeting place with cafés, restaurants, bars and over 500 stores and boutiques. Those interested in culture can discover the history and architecture of the Grisons capital on guided tours or themed tours.
A weekly market is held in the old town every Saturday morning from May to October. During the Advent season, the old town is the setting for the traditional Christmas market.
