Olive Tree Trail
Overview
Intro
On the 3.5-kilometer-long "Sentiero dell'olivo" strtetch, 18 information boards bring you closer to the history and scientific nature of olive tree growth and the oil won from olives.
A route with views across Lake Lugano, on which a landscape reminiscent of the Mediterranean can be enjoyed. The trail winds between Castagnola and Gandria, passes across the remains of old olive groves and areas on which this prized tree is again being planted.
Access to the trail is either in Castagnola (near the old community center) or in Gandria (near the parking lot above the village, at the main road). The trail is sign-posted with the olive tree logo and at certain intervals there are display panels.
If you start your tour in Castagnola you will return from Gandria by Porlezza-Lugano bus. The stop is near the Restaurant Gandria. Castagnola as well as Gandria can be reached by means of a Lugano lake cruise ship.
