Herzschlaufe Langnau
Overview
Intro
The Herzschlaufe Langnau takes you to the Upper Emmental. On almost traffic-free roads, the circular tour leads through the Emmental Valley's unique landscape of rolling hills. Cosy pubs, orchards and stately farms line the way, while the many small ascents and descents will reward everyone with magnificent views of the Alps.
Description
The route begins at Langnau railway station. After a short section through the proud Emmental village, you climb the first hill, where magnificent views of the Bernese Alps open up. At Hohwürz, the route's highest point, you're treated to a spectacular mountain panorama along the ridge. The summit of the Hohgant and the striking Schratteflue seem close enough to touch.
The descent winds down through meadows and pastures down to Eggiwil. Once again, you have to fight your way up a hill, where you'll be rewarded with a scenic traverse to Linden. The view first sweeps to the Alps, then to the Jura chain. The small roads, magnificent views and lovely Emmental architecture make cycling a delight. Farm shops and "Besenbeizen" (small-scale farm bistros) keep you entertained along the way.
On the descent to Stalden, you catch sight of Hünigen Castle, built in the 16th century. The castle's shady park is an inviting place for a breather. Only a few kilometres further on, Ursellen and Schlosswil are two more magnificent buildings to line the way.
On the ridgeway above Grosshöchstetten, you will experience the Emmental's unspoilt side. It boasts narrow trails along steep slopes and around many bends. Finally, a leisurely, flat section leads via Signau back to Langnau.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
