Murtera Bike
Overview
Intro
Panoramic and high-altitude round route from Ardez via the alps Murtera and Sura to the Schellen-Ursli village Guarda. The views of the picturesque Lower Engadine Dolomites, as well as the biodiverse flora at this altitude, don’t fail to amaze with every step.
Description
Ardez is a typical Engadine village. Straight past stately farmhouses with their painted and sgraffito decorated facades, the route flows onto a road. Uphill, the bikers cross a varied alpine countryside leading to the Maiensäss village Munt. This is located on a sunny terrace at the south-facing slope with a view of the Lower Engadine Dolomites.
With the forest line, the flora presents itself particularly biodiverse and colourful in summer – and compensates for the strains of the ascent to the Murtera Dadoura with 2142 metres. At the Alp, which has been the filming location for the Schellen-Ursli movie, the route starts to descend. The path turns into a proper picture book trail: along the flank of the Piz Cotschen, we enjoy the magnificent views of the picturesque summits of the opposite valley side. We reach the Alp Sura (2117) at the entrance of the Val Tuoi.
First, we follow the single trails through alpine pasture land. Afterwards, the trail leads through a light larch forest down to the village Guarda (1654), the home of the Schellen-Ursli. These beautiful houses with their massive arched doors, bay windows and ornaments are worth a stop. For the maintenance and preservation of the villagescape, Guarda was awarded the Wakker Prize in 1975. The return route to Ardez comfortably utilises the traffic-free road past the hamlet Boscha.
