The name is well chosen: On the Panorama Trail above Heiden, cross-country skiers enjoy views over Lake Constance and the Alpstein. Embedded in the curving terrain, the trail offers an exciting up and down through the Appenzell alpine foothills.
Description
Cross-country skiing in Appenzell – a special treat! Above the village of Heiden, close to the hamlet of Nasen, begins the Panorama Trail leading from Langenegg to Bensol. Set at an altitude of 1,000 to 1,100 metres, it is a true insider tip. The name Panorama Trail is very apt, as skiers are treated to views of both the imposing Alpstein region and Lake Constance down below. A one-of-a-kind experience, skiing, so to speak, between mountains and lake.
The roughly 8.5 kilometres long and quite hilly trail is nestled in the natural curves of the terrain. It thus offers an interesting up and down course through the typical open alpine foothill landscape of Appenzell.
When skiers are ready to take a break, the picturesque Biedermeier village of Heiden offers plenty of opportunities for rest and recharging. Trying a delicious Biber cake is a must in the Appenzell region. Those who are not ready to go home yet and still have some energy to spare will find an illuminated night-time cross-country trail outside the village.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
