Plaids Bike
Overview
Intro
There is something for everyone on this tour through sun-drenched mountain villages: fun single trails that go on and on, easy bike paths and tough climbs on alpine roads. Some challenging places and many well-maintained metres of trail ensure fantastic riding fun.
Description
If you like natural trails that can be negotiated smoothly, and if you are fit enough and do not want to miss out on a superb mountain panorama, this tour is just right for you. The start and finish are in sunny Breil-Brigels in the Surselva, high above the Vorderrhein. The Romansh-speaking village is located on a wide, open high plateau that has a view of the Brigelserhörern with the local mountain Piz Tumpiv, the Kistenstöckli and other peaks.
From the lake, you pass through the charming town with its sun-browned wooden houses. Then the downhill fun begins: the first single trail of the tour winds down to the Vorderrhein. This section is very popular with locals. After going down for almost 500 metres on trails, the tour follows the river and Veloland Route 2 to Trun. With its natural village character and an impressive mountain backdrop, it is worth stopping here. Trun also has its own cultural offerings: several contemporary artists come from here, the most famous being the Schellen-Ursli illustrator Alois Carigiet. In addition to an exhibition, you can also find several murals by the artist here.
After a cultural break, you might want to go for some sporting endurance: there is an elevation gain of around 900 metres via Schlans and the Alp da Schlans as you climb uphill on side roads and alpine roads. This section requires a great deal of effort, or a decent amount of battery if you are on an e-bike. Between Alp da Schlans Sut and Alp Tschgn Dadens Sut, there is a single trail that runs horizontally and later becomes a smoothly negotiable trail leading all the way to Plaids. At the end, all you have to do is continue on a gravel road to Brigels.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
