Description
Mountain farming is an important economic activity in the Val Medel. This is shown by the "Senda dils senns" hike from Curaglia to the Val Plattas. At various points along this "path of the senses", information boards invite you to use your senses consciously and to pay attention to the sound of the wind, the smell of tree bark, the taste of fresh spring water or the feeling of soft moss under your feet. Children can experience varied adventures with Pico the woodpecker.
The "Senda dils senns" leads first to the suspension bridge "Mulins" and crosses the Rein da Plattas there. The path follows the river through the woods to the short and steep climb to Biscuolm, one of the many mountain settlements in the valley. These bear witness to the three-stage farming system practised in the past: the animals are housed in the valley in winter, at the mountain settlements in spring and autumn, and on the higher alps in summer. The whitewashed Sontga Brida chapel in Biscuolm, built in 1602, stands out in the landscape. In Val Medel there are several such small places of worship, charmingly embedded in the scenery. They are not only cultural monuments: many chapels hold services at least once a year, and their bells, manually rung by volunteers, can be heard twice a day during the summer months. In Biscuolm, there is also a picnic and barbecue facility where you can relax. From there, you have a splendid view of the Medelser glacier, the Piz Medel, and towards the Oberalp massif.
Another steep climb follows, up to the highest point of the route at Surpali, from where the path leads through the spruce forest down to Pardatsch. After crossing the Rein da Plattas again, the path continues slightly downhill over an alpine pasture to the Maiensäss Plaun Tschaler and then to Gliarauns. From there, you can return to the village of Curaglia through the forest on an enchanted root path.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
