Intro

The easy high-altitude hike on the sunny side of the Lower Engadine runs through the ski area above Scuol. You reach the picturesque village of Sent on narrow trails, crossing numerous mountain streams. The views of the Lower Engadine Dolomites and the Clozza Gorge are superb.

Description

The tenth stage of the Via Engiadina begins at the Ftan-Prui chairlift station at an altitude of 2,064 metres. It passes through a region in which more than twenty high-quality mineral water springs have their source, thanks to the geological characteristics of the Lower Engadine.

The route begins with a view of the stunning mountain setting, which includes the Lower Engadine Dolomites of Piz Ajüz, Piz Triazza and Piz S-chalambert. It goes slightly uphill over vast alpine meadows. You then cross the slope on a well-paved gravel road above the tree line towards Motta Naluns. Visitors can enjoy the attractive playground at this gondola lift station. Immediately after this, the path turns north and leads into the Val Clozza.

On the steep hillside, you now follow narrow trails to the valley stations of the ski lift in Jonvrai. Numerous mountain streams flow together in this basin below Piz Minschun, Piz Nair and Piz Champatsch, and they form the Clozza. After crossing it, you continue on the right side of the valley and back out of Val Clozza.

You cross the southern hillside on wide meadows above the tree line, and then back into the forest at Larschs. There are large bends on the long stretch that runs down to Sent, and you arrive at the typical Engadine village through the rocky gorge in the Val da Muglins.

The late Gothic village church of San Lurench is visible from afar. At the western end of the village are the striking church ruins of San Peder. In this Rhaeto-Romanic heartland, elegant, neoclassical houses stand next to typical Engadine farmhouses, as a testimony to the numerous major fires that the village has experienced.
