WALSA-Weg
Overview
Intro
The Flumserberg is considered the heart of Heidiland and offers many hours of sunshine and fantastic views. Then follows a steep mule track, passing a waterfall. From Chnobelboden, a west-facing slope with many houses and busy farms opens out.
Description
The rugged landscapes of the Churfirsten and Alvier mountain ranges appear within reach over Walen Lake. The altitude in this short leg is covered quickly. At Hessenberg, the surfaced road gives way to a path that is also used by mountain bikes. In fact, this trail is favoured by professionals as the winding descent is steep with many tight bends. There are also stone steps and roots to be overcome throughout the 200 metres of altitude over loose ground.
The Chirchenbach stream is followed by the pasture at Amenigen. It is positioned like a terrace high above the deep blue Walen Lake. Behind it rises the jagged edge of the Churfristen range, steep as before – and what a view it is! A bit further on, you will leave the trail but not the official mountain bike route. A wide road leads to Oberterzen, the highest resort village in the municipality of Quarten, which is also home to Unterterzen, Quinten, Murg and Mols. The last hour of walking starts past the middle station on the gondola lift.
At Quarten, you will be able to see over almost the entire lake to Walenstadt. You will also already be able to spot your destination for this leg of the journey. This leg ends over the Murgbach stream in Murg. The destination is located on the delta formed by the stream on the shore of Walen Lake. One special feature of this area is that the climate is particularly mild and humid, meaning that chestnuts, figs, lemons and other exotic fruit thrive here.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
