The Silvretta Arena double-decker lift at a glance

The double-decker cable car from Samnaun was the first cable car in the world with double-decker cabins. It transports up to 180 people per trip from Samnaun-Ravaisch to Alp Trida Sattel at 2511 metres. The cable car is part of the cross-border Silvretta Arena and connects Samnaun in Graubünden with Ischgl in Austria.

What to experience

Take the double-decker cable car up to the Silvretta Arena (6 minutes)

Get into the two-story cabin and let yourself be driven up from Samnaun-Ravaisch to the Alp Trida Sattel. Below you, the valley moves further and further away, all around the mountains rise into the sky. At the top, the alpine landscape opens up to you on the border between Switzerland and Austria.

  • Good to know: The train runs up from Samnaun-Ravaisch every half hour.

Skiing and snowboarding

On 239 kilometres of slopes, you can ski or snowboard from wide carving slopes to steep descents on the Greitspitz. On the smugglers' circuit, you follow the paths that used to be used to bring coffee and tobacco across the border between Switzerland and Austria. So you can switch between the two countries several times on skis.

  • Good to know: The slopes are open from the end of November to the beginning of May.
  • Tip: In Samnaun, you can shop duty-free up to the free value of 150 francs per person.

Hike via Alp Bella to Samnaun-Compatsch (2.5 hours)

From the Alp Trida saddle you walk down to Alp Trida and climb up to Alp Bella at 2386 meters, one of the highest cow alps in Europe. From here, the milk flows through a pipeline to the dairy in Samnaun-Laret. You descend via the 4-kilometer hiking trail to Samnaun-Compatsch.

  • Good to know: Wear sturdy shoes, the path leads over stony terrain.
  • Tip: After the hike, relax in the Alpenquell, the highest adventure pool in Switzerland.
