At the Swiss Science Centre Technorama in Winterthur, touching is encouraged. Here you can explore scientific phenomena with all your senses. Over 500 experiment stations, shows and workshops invite you to discover.
Swiss Science Center Technorama at a glance
The Technorama in Winterthur in the canton of Zurich is one of the largest science centres in the world. More than 500 experiment stations are available on 3 floors. The courses on offer range from physics, chemistry and biology to mathematics, perception and art. There are also daily shows and guided workshops in the laboratories.
What to experience
Hands-on exhibitions
On 3 floors and in the park, you will explore mechanics, electromagnetism, optics, mathematics, perception and biology. At each station, you push, twist and build yourself. In addition, changing special exhibitions bring current topics into the house. From the end of March to the end of October, you can also do research in the park with outdoor experiment stations.
- Good to know: Shows and workshops will be held in German. Enquire for other languages.
- Tip: Start your tour on the 1st floor – there is usually less crowd at the beginning.
Attend shows and demonstrations
In the Science Arena, you can watch demonstrations of natural science phenomena up close. Experts from Technorama show experiments that you can't replicate at home. Bang effects, glowing chemical reactions and electrifying moments are part of the programme.
- Good to know: Plan your visit, the shows only offer a reduced number of seats.
- Tip: You can find the show times in the daily programme at the box office or online.
Experimentation in workshops and laboratories (45 minutes)
In 7 laboratories, you will experiment with chemicals, microscopes or robots under professional guidance. The public workshops deal with changing topics from biology, chemistry and physics. In the open laboratories, you will conduct research on your own after a short introduction.
- Good to know: The workshops take place daily at 1 p.m., tickets can be booked at the box office.
- Tip: Some workshops can be booked in French, Italian or English on request.
