Aargauer Weg
Overview
Intro
The «Aargauer Weg» offers diversity: superb views over the foothills of the Jura and tranquil paths along the edges of river banks provide contrast with Habsburg castles, magnificent monasteries and mediaeval old towns.
Description
From the Fricktal valley over the challenging rolling hills of the Aargau Jura Park, the reward at the end is a series of wonderful panoramic views. The trail leads through lush meadows and forests of the Jura to the old town of Aarau, with its enchanting, unique roof gables.
The meadow landscapes along the Aare are a delight. On the way to Switzerland's Wasserschloss, the confluence of the Aare, Reuss and Limmat rivers, you'll find imposing witness of the Habsburg era such as Wildegg Castle, Habsburg Castle or Königsfelden Monastery.
Along the way from Baden to the historic Mellingen old town and upriver on the Reuss, nature is revealed in romantic forests, lush fields and beautiful water meadows.
In the small Habsburg town of Bremgarten the narrow streets tempt visitors to a tour of discovery. The old town, a cultural monument of national importance, is enclosed on three sides by the Reuss. The Flachsee landscape is characterised by marshlands and water meadows. As the trail crosses fields and passes by farmhouses the Benedictine Monastery of Muri rises out of the landscape.
The Aargauer Weg provides a unique interplay of culture and landscape.
