Why the venue?

We had both dreamed of getting married in Zermatt, one of our favorite places in Switzerland. We met while we were both living in Geneva, and Zermatt was the first place we went on vacation together, and we have come back to again and again. Even after I moved back to the US for work and were dating long-distance, we continued to make the trip back to Zermatt together to hike and explore. We wanted to be able to share our favorite place with our family and friends, showing them the natural beauty of the Matterhorn and the charm of the town.

CERVO Mountain Resort

CERVO was the perfect spot in Zermatt, with its gorgeous views, incredible convenience from town, delicious restaurants, and relaxed and fun atmosphere. CERVO was just the right mix of a feeling like you were in the mountains, with incredible views in every direction, while having festive, modern spaces that were perfect for our celebrations. And the events team at CERVO was incredible in helping us implement our vision for the day.

We picked 31 August 2024 because we wanted to continue our tradition of August trips to Zermatt, hiking and enjoying the lovely late summer weather. Every summer since we met, we have made a trip together to Zermatt, bringing friends or exploring on our own, testing new hiking trails and eating our way around town. And knowing that we wanted to get married in Switzerland in the summer, August in Zermatt felt like the perfect choice.

Who were your best suppliers?

All of our vendors in Switzerland, particularly those Zermatt. were great and incredibly helpful. I was doing most of the planning from the US, several hours behind European time and not being able to meet with vendors in person. The events team at CERVO was so organized and helpful that they were able to work through all our many logistical and planning questions, setting my mind at ease planning everything without a dedicated planner. Zermatt Flowers was incredible in helping to translate my vision of late summer sunset in the mountains into beautiful florals that accentuated the natural beauty of the ceremony space. And our photographer Brianna did such an incredible job capturing the emotions and the joy of the day.

Did you have a theme?

We tried to make nods to local Swiss traditions and our love of the mountains into our weekend of events. In our color palette, we incorporated the colors and feel of late summer in the mountains, through a mix of sunset-colored florals and greenery. Our stationary also included illustrations of mountains and the iconic Matterhorn. Our welcome event included performances from Alpine horn players, a fondue dinner, and special guests of two Valaisian black nosed sheep straight from the mountains that Colin arranged as surprise for me. We rounded out our weekend by inviting all of our guests to take the traditional cog-wheel train up the mountains for an up-close view of the Matterhorn and a relaxed hike.
