Behind the scenes of Swiss weddings
Intro
We collected funny stories that really happened in Swiss hotels during glamorous weddings.
Gstaad Palace
"After removing the plates from the newly-married couples table, two ‘waiters’ transformed into opera singers. This magical, musical moment was planned by the bride to surprise her new husband and all their guests."
Bürgenstock Hotels & Resorts
“It was 10 p.m. and the guests were looking forward to the wedding cake cutting. The cake was rolled onto the terrace on a cart, but the brakes came off the moment the bride and groom made their cut and the cart started to roll away. The banquet manager leapt forward and just managed to stop the cake from falling down.”
“Shortly before entering the church the bride was so surprised her bridal bouquet looked exactly like the Instagram picture she had sent, she nearly missed her cue to walk down the aisle”
Le Grand Bellevue Gstaad
"An Asian couple getting married at the hotel in winter decided last minute to have their ceremony outside in the snow-covered gardens. The request arrived last minute and the flowers were South American pampas grasses. The grasses were difficult to source and the flower styler eventually ordered them from Geneva and brought them to Gstaad just in time for the wedding. The weather turned much colder than expected with snowy days and plummeting temperatures. The couple still wanted to go ahead with the outdoor ceremony. We arranged the pampas grass decoration with a small podium in the perfectly snow white gardens. The ceremony took place at -15°C in the middle of a snowfall. It was such a winter wonderland in a beautiful Alpine setting with the white pampas grass decoration in the background and all guests enjoying a true mountain experience.
In the wedding pictures it’s impossible to see everybody was freezing! They had had a 45°C temperature drop in the 48 hours, from the moment they left their tropical country until they arrived into Gstaad. It was an experience the couple or any of their 50 wedding guests will never forget."
Royal Savoy Hotel & Spa
"We received a last-minute change for the wedding celebration, which was taking place in our legendary gardens. The pastor did not want to celebrate the wedding outside without any shade. We had 15 minutes to turn all the chairs, and the flower arch to get a small shade for him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t do the celebration!
Needless to say, the bride had planned a special way to reach the celebration venue, therefore the groom, the pastor and her had to change the entrance at the very last minute. The teams lead by the events manager and the banquet manager stayed on site to make ensure the bride found her groom."
Kulm Hotel St. Moritz
"Some years ago, we hosted a wedding at Kulm Hotel with a party of 100 guests. Unfortunately, the flower decoration that was ordered externally was not delivered in time. Not only the table decorations but also the flower decorations for the ceremony and the bridal bouquet were not delivered. The florists from both our hotels, with the help of the concierges and other staff, used flowers from own hotel’s stock, as well as the flower shops in the valley, from other hotels and even our local Co-op Supermarket to prepare and finish the flower decoration needed to make the wedding exceptional. Everything worked out at the very last minute. We always recommend couples to order their flowers directly with us or with a local flower shop!"
Grand Hotel Kronenhof Pontresina
"A couple of years ago there was a wedding with about 80 guests. The dinner, first dance and wedding cake were planned at the beautiful Grand Restaurant followed by an after party in the historic wine cellar. It was a perfect day and evening but somehow between the Grand Restaurant and the wine cellar the groom lost his ring! The bride was not amused of course and everybody started searching. In the end the party went on without finding the ring which has still never appeared. Fortunately the couple are still happily married."
