Ruhesitz-Schlittelweg
Overview
Intro
Before making this descent, you have to earn it – but you are amply rewarded. At the end of the uphill trek is an attractive and cosy mountain inn. The views towards the Alpstein are magnificent and the sled run through the gently rolling landscape offers an ideal mix of leisurely and fast-paced fun.
Description
After walking up on the hiking trail to the inviting Ruhesitz mountain inn, a fantastic vista comes into view for the first time. In the distance are the three Alpstein chains covered in deep snow, and below in the foreground is Brülisau, the end point of your descent, and the wide valley basin of Appenzell. This unique view will accompany you on the entire descent – while at your back the mighty summits of Hohe Kasten and Kamor keep watch.
In front of the mountain inn, the route starts along the roadway – initially gently, but it soon begins to curve and speed up. Surrounded by typically gentle rolling hills, the terrain is open and clear. Alternatively, you can choose the «Direttissima» route, which leads straight down across meadowland and after a number of curves meets the road again.
In a series of tight and sweeping hairpin bends the little road leads past beautifully preserved farmhouses. On the final downhill section you can almost reach the church door of the beautiful St. Sebastian church at the village square of Brülisau.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
