Bernina Express Classic
Overview
Intro
The most spectacular Alpine crossing: the Bernina Express connects language regions and cultures - in serpentine lines and without a cogwheel. The panoramic journeys through the UNESCO World Heritage Site are a delight.
High up to the glacier glitter of the mountains, deep down into the palm paradise of Italy: the Bernina Express, the highest railway line across the Alps, connects the north of Europe with the south. On the way, the Bernina Express rolls over the 65-metre-high Landwasser Viaduct, the landmark of the Rhaetian Railway and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In total, you travel from Chur to Tirano through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges. Along the way, travellers pass phenomenal sights such as the Montebello Curve with a view of the Bernina massif. Or the Morteratsch glacier, the three lakes Lej Pitschen, Lej Nair and Lago Bianco, Alp Grüm and the Brusio circular viaduct. In summer, the journey can be extended on the Bernina Express bus from Tirano to Lugano.
Spicy mountain air and fresh panoramic views on the Bernina Pass: in summer, open observation cars are attached to the Bernina Express between Davos Platz and Tirano. The windowless convertible cars enhance the nature experience. This guarantees mirror-free photos of the breathtaking landscape!
