Intro
Sion has so much more to offer than just breathtaking mountain panoramas – surfing enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy: Alaïa Bay has been open since spring 2021, inviting surfers of all levels to ride the perfect wave.
Alaïa Bay is the first surf pool in continental Europe and is characterised by its unique shape, revolutionary wave technology and location in the middle of the spectacular Valais mountain panorama. Passionate surfing pros and curious newbies have the chance to practice the sport on a professional level or to learn it from scratch.
All the necessary equipment is available on site, and individual advice is offered to ensure that every surfer finds the right board for them. There is also a surf shop where you can buy your own board and other surfing-related accessories. Spectators are also well catered for at the Twin Fin restaurant, where the Mediterranean atmosphere and the omnipresent surfing ambience can be enjoyed to the full.
Guests of all ages, whether visiting on their own or as a family, are invited to experience the cosy and relaxed atmosphere. Numerous surfing courses and sessions of various levels of difficulty can be booked. In addition, different waves can be generated for different skill levels, ranging from small 0.5-metre waves to larger 2-metre waves for the pros. It is therefore advisable and helpful to book a session in advance and reserve a time slot.
The pool covers over 8,300 square metres, is situated next to the lake in Les Îles and can be easily reached by car or by public transport. Not far from the popular ski areas of Crans-Montana, Verbier, Zermatt and Chamonix, surfers can now hone their skills in both summer and winter.
Surfing enthusiasts can live out their passion at Alaïa Bay, experiencing something close to the exhilarating feeling of being out in the sea. Paddling against the waves with a breathtaking view of the Swiss mountains – this is all possible in Sion. Let’s surf the Alps!
