Crossing the Gotthard Pass in a Horse-drawn Stagecoach
Overview
Intro
If you use the tunnel you will miss the essential point: the feeling to have truly conquered the Gotthard, this primeval massif between Northern and Southern Europe.
The path through the Schöllenen Gorge and the barren valley of Urserental up to the Pass is an experience one should have at least once in one's liftime. Be it on foot or by nostalgic Post Bus, or by stagecoach drawn by 5 horses just like in the 19th Century.
Simply breathtaking is the ride through the Tremola, which was built between 1827 and 1830 on the southern flank of the Gotthard Pass and surmounts in hair raising serpentines the 1000 meters in altitude difference between the ridge of the Pass and Airolo.
From Andermatt over the Gotthard Pass to Airolo. A journey back in time with the legendary Gotthard Post horse and carriage transport, which is anything other than old and boring!
