Alpine Klettertour Piz Kesch, 3417 m, über die Nadel
Overview
Intro
Ascent of the Keschnadel with a traverse to the main summit, a classic high-alpine climbing route with a mountain guide
Piz Kesch is an excellent vantage point between Silvretta and Bernina. The ascent via the so-called “Nadel” offers great alpine climbing on solid rock with good holds.
The route is varied and leads through dikes, across slabs, and along exposed ridges to the highest point of the “Nadel.” This is followed by the traverse to the main summit, with ups and downs over rocky outcrops and gullies. At the summit, we’ll be rewarded with a magnificent view of the Bernina Massif and the peaks of Central Grisons!
Your benefits at a glance:
- The most scenic mountain between the Upper and Lower Engadine
- Maximum of 2 guests for optimal guidance and maximum safety
- Challenging climbing on good rock
- Cozy, rustic, and renovated SAC hut
- We’re at home in Graubünden—we know our way around here!
Planned Itinerary
Ascent of Piz Kesch from Chamanna d’Es-cha via the Nadel.
Day 1: Meet at 2:45 p.m. at the train station in Tiefencastel (or at 6:00 p.m. directly at the hut). Group drive to the hut’s parking lot on the Albula Pass Road near Punt Granda, at 2,256 m. Ascent via the well-maintained hut trail to Chamanna d’Es-cha, 2,594 m; dinner and tour briefing. Ascent time: approx. 1 3/4 hours.
Day 2: Ascent via the mountain trail to Porta d’Es-cha, 3,008 m. Crossing the glacier, we reach the start of the ridge and follow it to the beginning of the actual climb on the prominent rock spire. The climbing, rated at grades 3 and 4, follows the ridge edge directly in the lower section and culminates in a short, steep passage rated upper grade 4 at the crux. From the summit of the spire, 3,386 m, we traverse the ridge—which is exposed in places—to the main summit of Piz Kesch at 3,417 m. Descent via the standard route back to Porta d’Es-cha and the hut. We’ll descend together to the pass road and drive back to Tiefencastel, where we’ll arrive later in the afternoon.
Ascent time approx. 5 hours; total hiking time approx. 9 to 10 hours.
This tour can be booked as a private guided tour on any date, provided you book well in advance.
