Intro

In the Grindelwald Glacier Gorge you can immerse yourself in a world of rock and water. Follow the path deep between 300-meter-high rock faces and test your courage on the spiderweb stretched over the gorge.

The Glacier Canyon Grindelwald at a glance

The glacier gorge is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Jungfrau-Aletsch. The Lower Grindelwald Glacier formed the rock faces, which are up to 300 metres high, over thousands of years. Today, wooden walkways and tunnels lead about a kilometre into the gorge. The glacier gorge is open from May to November and is accessible even when it rains.

What to experience

Crossing the Glacier Gorge (1-2 hours)

From the entrance, a secured footbridge leads through tunnels and galleries deep into the gorge. On the way, you will hear the roar of the Lütschine and see how the glacier water has formed the rocks. Information boards provide information about the formation of the gorge, the geology and local myths.

  • Good to know: Sturdy shoes and warm clothing are recommended.
  • Tip: Book tickets online in advance to avoid waiting times.

Climbing onto the Spiderweb (15-20 minutes)

In the middle of the gorge the 170 square metre Spiderweb awaits: A blue net stretched 7 meters above the Lütschine. Test your balance and courage on the coarse-meshed net and look down on the rushing stream. A thrill for all those who have a head for heights.

  • Good to know: The spiderweb is well secured and also suitable for children.

Evening illumination in the gorge (Night Experience)

From May to November, the glacier gorge is open every Friday until 10 pm. Coloured spots illuminate the rocks and the spiderweb, creating a mystical atmosphere. The contrast between light and shadow inside the gorge makes for special photo opportunities.

  • Good to know: The entrance fee also includes a visit to the Crystal Museum.
