Old wooden bridge in Olten
Overview
Intro
Back in Roman times, there was a fort standing guard over the river crossing where the old bridge in Olten is now. The old bridge was first mentioned in 1295.
Over the centuries, the bridge has several times burned down or been damaged or even washed away by floods and ice drifts. Following the French invasion, Blasius Baltenschwiler erected a temporary bridge in 1797, which was replaced by the current bridge in 1803.
