Berne Rose Garden
Overview
Intro
The Rose Garden is located above Bern’s Old Town and offers one of the most beautiful views of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Start your tour of the city here or enjoy a walk or picnic in the park.
The Rose Garden Bern at a glance
The public park above Bern’s Old Town is one of the city’s most popular green spaces. During the day, visitors come here for the famous panoramic view, while in the evening locals gather on the lawns after work. Relax on the large meadows, enjoy a picnic or sit on the park wall overlooking Bern’s Old Town.
What to experience
Closing time with a view
Sit on the meadow or on the park wall and let your gaze wander over Bern’s Old Town and the foothills of the Alps. In spring, locals gather here to enjoy the warm sun and the blossoming cherry trees above the old town. In summer, the park becomes one of the city’s favourite sunset spots – ideally with a drink from the restaurant kiosk.
- Good to know: The park is accessible free of charge around the clock.
- Tip: The Rose Garden restaurant is known for its fondue in winter.
Walk from the Rose Garden to the Bear Park (10-15 minutes)
A steep footpath leads from the Rose Garden down to the Bear Park. Along the way, you pass the Einstein bench: Albert Einstein developed his theory of relativity in Bern and is commemorated here with a bronze figure. At the bottom, watch the Bernese bears before continuing on to the Old Town.
- Good to know: The path is steep and can be slippery when wet.
- Tip: The perfect selfie spot awaits here – Einstein and the Old Town in one picture.
