By aerial gondola up to Foppa, then gently downhill again – the panoramic trail leads beneath the Flimserstein to Fidaz. On the way: lovely Alpine huts, mountain pastures and fantastic views of the valley and the mountains.
Description
Bergbahnen Flims Dorf is the starting point of this tour. From here, the aerial gondola takes you up to Foppa, where your winter hike begins. At the top, you’ll have already reached the tour’s highest point, and the route continues mostly gently downhill. The trail briefly crosses the ski piste and then the wonderfully rolling Foppa Plateau with its old Alpine huts.
Now in plain sight: the Flimserstein, the scene of the massive Flims rockslide, the largest Alpine rockslide that ever occurred in Switzerland. Today, it marks the boundary of the Sardona Tectonic Arena, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2008. With views of the valley and the surrounding mountains, the easy trail then dips into a forest of mountain spruce. Around Crap da Sigl the terrain opens up again, and after another forest section and a gentle incline, you reach the hamlet of Scheia. The path descends across the snowy pasture to Fidaz.
This high-altitude hike leads along a sunny hillside, offering spectacular views of the villages in the valley, the Flims Forest and the Grisons mountains. There are several mountain huts and restaurants along the way. After arriving at Fidaz, you can walk on the road back to Flims. A local bus also operates.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
