Lombachalp Trail
Overview
Intro
Through one of Switzerland’s largest moorlands and a pristine winter landscape, flanked by the peaks of the Hohgant and the Augstmatthorn. In the distance, see the peaks of the Niesen and the famous triumvirate of the Bernese Oberland.
Description
Mystical moorlands, wild spruce trees and mountain pines, burbling streams and bizarre limestone pavements characterise the landscape around the Lombachalp. It is one of the largest and most impressive moorlands in Switzerland and lies nestled between the Hohgant and Augstmatthorn peaks, behind the mountain farming village of Habkern.
The route begins at the Jägerstübli Restaurant, situated 1,560m above sea level. You can stop off here for some refreshment on the sun terrace either before or after the snowshoe hike. From the car park, the marked snowshoe trail leads you through the pristine winter landscape of the idyllic moorland via Färrichegg and Schwarzbach to the hamlet of Spycher. It is worth stopping for a breather at the huts that are used to store cheese in summer to admire the view of the famous three peaks, the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. After a short ascent over Bolberg – with sweeping views of the expansive high plateau – as well as Winterröscht, the route continues back to the starting point.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
